Tuchthuis
2011
We went here twice. The first time it was sealed so we decided to go back. We had more luck the second time, a hobo made a hole in the fence so he (and we) could get in. I was expecting a bit more from this place because of all the photos I saw. It was actually pretty empty and everything looked the same.
History
The 'house of correction' was build in the 18th century. It was used as a prison for criminals, prostitutes and vagabonds. They lerarned a profession. The buildings were also used as a militairy hospital and as a madhouse.
After 1920 the Tuchthuis was used by the army. They left in 1974 and it has been abandoned ever since. The local government is renovating the buildings at the moment.
