Hasard Cheratte
2011
Even though this location is really trashed/known by everyone it is still a very nice location. I really loved the was the building looked and there are a lot of nice details left. We have been here twice and both times have been exciting. The first time we came out and went down the hill which we first climbed for an entrance, unfortunately there was a man with a dog and he wasn't really happy to see us. We went back and went walked to the other side of the hill and got down there. The second time we heard something that sounded like a police car microphone so we ran back to our car again.
History:
The Coalmine was opened in 1860. There were about 600 miners but during peak productions there could be more than 1500. It was the first coalmine that was electricically powered in belgium. The mine closed in 1977 and became a historical monument in 1982.
Now the mine has a owner who doesn't really care about it. Sometimes he appears at the gate and he'll let you in for 10,-.....
